Self-Employed Retirement Plans

Self-Employed Retirement Plans allow self-employed individuals and small-business owners to save for retirement.

The main self employed retirement plans are:

  1. Simplified Employee Pension (SEP IRA),
  2. Individual 401(k)—sometimes called a solo 401(k) or a self-employed 401(k).
  3. Savings Incentive Match Plan for Employees (SIMPLE IRA)
These plans can be opened at any online brokerage, I'm using the companies below as an example, so comparisons can be made. They all carry the same products.
A sole proprietor who makes $40,000 can save $8,000 in a SEP-IRA, but over $21,000 in a solo 401(k). The SIMPLE IRA varies and is for the employer and up to 100 employees.

An educational video below on the Solo 401k, again not endorsing the company, just use the information for educational purposes and do your own research.

The Sub of the Day

UPDATE: I received a $30 Subway Gift Card from a friend! That's about 10 - $3.00 Subs of the day!

Subway almost had me buying their stock today, that's how much I loved their $3.00 Sub of the Day.

But they remain privately owned. It almost bought tears to my eyes.

I Googled and found out that people are searching far a wide for any information on a subway stock. NADA.  I might have to buy a franchise. The initial franchise fee is $15,000.

How to Keep Your Child From Stealing

When I was a young mother, I never wanted my child to want something so bad, to want to steal it because she didn't have the money.

She knew that stealing was bad but I didn't want peer pressure to get the best of her young mind. Give your children some pride in knowing that they can buy what they want.

She liked magazines with her favorite groups on the cover, music CD's, and sunglasses to look cool like Mary J. Blige, so I decided to give her an allowance. I bought her a pink shiny piggy bank for her change and opened a bank account  with her very own bank book. It was old school.

As soon as they start school, give them an allowance at a very young age, every week. The allowance must equal their age plus change.

Age
Allowance
Change
5 $5 5 nickles or 25 cents
6 $6 6 nickles or 30 cents
7 $7 7 nickles or 35 cents
8 $8 8 nickles or 40 cents
9 $9 9 nickles or 45 cents
10 $10 10 nickles or 50 cents
11 $11 11 nickles or 55 cents
12 $12 12 nickles or 60 cents
13 $13 13 nickles or 65 cents

At 14, they should get a youth job or have a business. The internet is great for creating online businesses easily.

The Frugal Family

Every time I post my frugal blog on Facebook, somebody on my Facebook feed always responds, "I'm so glad I have my family instead of money"  or something similar.
. . . EVERY TIME!

Well, here are some tips to have your family AND money, at the same damn time.
  1. Start a trust fund for your children. I started one for my child for $50 a month at a mutual fund company. It really adds up and comes in handy when needed.
  2. Frugal Friday Dinners - have Friday dinners at home with your family. This saves money, everyone can contribute, and you get to talk to one another.
  3. Family vacations - go together and share the hotel bill, it saves money
  4. Share clothing - instead of buying something new, LOOK IN YOUR FAMILY CLOSET, pass it down, it saves money.
  5. Share the Bills- Live together and share the bills, cable, internet, phone, light and gas, rent/mortgage, it saves money
  6. Share books - when your finished reading a book, share it with your family, it saves money.
  7. Support your family businesses - someone in every family is a barber, a beautician, a cook, a manicurist, a grocery store owner etc . . . support their business like it was your own, because it is.
  8. Start a Family Garden -  Rent a $1 Lot (in every city) or buy plot of land and grow some food for your family members to share or use your back yard.
  9. Buy a cheap house together and fix it up together for everyone in the family to live together.
  10. Student Loan Payments - make sure that a family members student loans are paid off.

Obama Money

Yes, of course I own Obama Money.
They're collectors items.

The Mini Emergency Fund

Most experts agree that people need from 3 - 6 months saved in their Emergency Fund. This certainly is good advice, however, I think folks would find it daunting to save such a large amount.

According to my Emergency Fund Calculator, my 3-month Emergency Fund has been calculated to be $8,400. With that being fact, my one month Emergency Fund would be $2,800. Even that seems large for some poeple to save, so I'm going to break it down per day, with 30 days being the average, which will be  about $93.33 per day x 7 days.

I would need a minimum of $653.33 (Approx,$700)  in my mini emergency fund for small emergencies, 1/4 of your monthly amount. I would recommend keeping the 1/4 amount in cash at home and the remainder in a money market account.

Today's lesson is  . . .
Emergency Funds can be broken down into smaller amounts and can  come in different sizes, (mini) small, medium, and large.

Note: Should you keep your Mini Emergency Fund at home in an envelope? NO.
American Express has a very cheap debit card that can be used for this purpose.

I Tripled My Money

I slept on Tata Motors
I haven't checked on my Tata Motors stocks in years!
Checked it today, and found out that it increased +152.05%!

What the flipping Phuck?!

I bought a few shares for $18.75 like 5 years ago and forgot about it. Today, I decided that I wanted to consolidate all of my accounts and discovered that this little car company stock is now $47.26! it TRIPLED! OKAY DOUBLED 2.5 TIMES!

My friends all laughed when I talked about investing in the car that was being marketed for under $2,500. Who the phuck is laughing now?

$100 a Year for doing NOTHING!

A hundred dollars a year for doing nothing? I'll take it!

General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) has been part of my portfolio since forever, why?
  1. Because everyone has a light bulb and
  2. Because GE really makes me feel like I'm part owner of a Fortune 500 company, I like that feeling.
Every year without fail, they send me the Annual Report (the book on how my company is doing) and I get my $100 dividend check.

I actually started buying GE one share at a time, at $25 a pop. Any online brokerage website would be happy to start your investment account with only $25.00. My ownership has grown to 120 shares, which yields me about $100 every year. Not bad.

Unbelievably, Southwest Airlines made Stock of the Day over at Barchart, I can't believe it! Southwest is the dearly beloved favorite airline of Essence Music Festival goer's who affectionately call the company Soul Plane. The best things we love about Southwest:

  4. The $50 Southwest Giftcard at Amazon, let's you pay little by little for your flight
Now I find out that it's a good stock buy at $33.87. Wow! That's even better!

Tithing: Making a Spiritual Connection With Your Money

The more you give, the more you will receive.

Giving 10% of your money to charity (my personal preference) or a religious organization is a blessing that people do not partake of;  and the blessing is there to take whenever you make  a spiritual connection with your money to help someone.  If you are wondering why you are still poor or broke, then you need to give the spiritual laws that govern prosperity a chance. We would be so much more blessed,  if we chose to use our money to make a spiritual connection to the abundance of the Universe.

Only an estimated 5% of Americans actually tithe.

Do you need to be rich to give 10% of your earnings? NO, 10% of any amount is still good.  John D Rockefeller,  said, “I never would have been able to tithe the first million dollars I ever made if I had not tithed my first salary, which was $1.50 per week.

Try it once and see what happens.

You will be counting your blessings and your money, at the same time

The “F” word.

Frugal
fru·gal
ˈfro͞ogəl/
adjective
  1. sparing or economical with regard to money

When you tell people, "our" people that you are  frugal, they automatically think that you're cheap. When you tell them that it means that you watch your money,  it is misconstrued as 1. being broke or  2. a coupon collector. If you say that you're on a budget, they act like they can't understand the word. Why are you on a budget they ask?

One of the richest men in the world, Warren Buffet, still lives in the same house he bought in 1958 for $38,000. I wouldn't say that he's cheap, I would call him frugal,  an amazing business investor, and one who sticks to a budget.

Something to remember when you are confused:
  • Cheap people care about the cost of something.
  • Frugal people care about the value of something.
More money please.
